What should you bring?

Driver age and experience requirements are attached to individual car hire offers in Dubrovnik. Similar models can have different requirements. The rental agent may refuse the service when the driver does not meet the selected car’s conditions.

A valid national driving licence must cover the whole rental period and carry details duplicated in Latin script. Copies and electronic licences are not accepted. Where a national licence is valid only in its issuing country, the rental terms for driver documents recommend an International Driving Permit alongside it.

The voucher records the booking’s document and payment requirements. The rental company shown on the offer is the contact for questions about what it accepts at collection.

How does the deposit work?

The rental balance and deposit are separate amounts. The booking process and voucher state the payment methods, how the deposit is held and its refund timetable.

A company may require a physical embossed credit card in the main driver’s name. Some companies accept a physical, personalised, embossed debit card in that name where the offer and voucher specify it.

A deposit is security held under the rental agreement, rather than a description of the insurance cover. Its amount and payment method depend on the selected offer.

A phone wallet does not satisfy a requirement for the physical card. The required card must be present at collection in the name specified by the rental company.

Some companies retain deposits for 30 to 45 days after return. Fines or unpaid tolls from the rental period may be charged to the deposit, including administration expenses for fines.

What does the insurance exclude?

Standard insurance excludes damage to the wheels, undercarriage, windscreen and interior. Additional cover specifies which parts and events it covers in its own conditions.

An insured event requires immediate notification to the rental agent and a police report, unless otherwise agreed with the agent. Failure to meet those conditions cancels the insurance issued for the car and leaves the renter fully responsible.

The deposit and insurance describe different parts of the agreement. The cover and its exclusions are stated separately from the deposit.

Insurance is invalid for deliberate damage caused by intentional vandalism or neglect. The rental company shown on the offer is the contact for the car’s incident procedure.

Planning a border crossing or ferry?

Travel outside Croatia requires prior permission. Prices and conditions vary with the rental company, vehicle and duration abroad. The rental company shown on the offer is the contact for the proposed route and the arrangement required for that car.

Ferry travel between the mainland and islands requires prior arrangement before the booking is completed. The arrangement applies to the selected rental car and intended ferry journey.

Only small pets may travel in the car, and they must remain in their travel carriers. This is a condition of the rental rather than a general promise that every type of pet is accepted.

Rental cars may travel only on paved public roads. An unpaved track to a beach or accommodation lies outside that permission.

Fuel, timing and the return.

The return meeting point forms part of the arrangement with the rental company. A different return city requires an offer that permits it.

The car is due back with the same fuel level as at collection. A shortfall is charged at the rental company’s rates, while a higher level is not reimbursed.

Washing is charged to the renter if dirt prevents inspection. Fuel, parking, fines and toll roads are also the renter’s responsibility.

A rental extension requires notice to the agent in advance. The minimum chargeable rental period is 24 hours, including rentals lasting only a few hours.
